JG Ingenieros has provided the engineering services for the design and construction management of the Canalejas Madrid Centre located in Plaza de Canalejas, in the heart of Madrid.
The Canalejas Centre has a surface area of 77,800 m² distributed over 8 floors above ground and 5 below ground and is one of the most important urban interventions developed in Europe in recent times. It involves the remodelling of seven historic buildings, two of them from the end of the 19th century, which were joined together as a result of various bank mergers and which had been unused for 15 years as financial activity had moved to the outskirts of the city. The aim of the project is to create a complex with different uses: a luxury hotel, operated by the Four Seasons chain with 200 rooms, a 15,000 m² shopping gallery, 22 high-end apartments and a car park with 400 spaces.
Both the architectural proposal and the technical installations have been designed in pursuit of a high level of sustainability and eco-efficiency, achieving LEED-CS Gold environmental certification .
