JG Ingenieros has provided the facilities engineering service in defining the design criteria and in the projects of the different facilities for the construction of the Isabel Zendal Nursing Hospital located in the Valdebebas district of Madrid, next to the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML), on a 62,000 m² plot.
The hospital complex consists of several buildings, with a constructed area of 78,000 m² (58,000 m² of main use and 20,000 m² of parking), and 29,000 m² of exterior development. The design and construction was organized in different lots for the different buildings. The project is inspired by the provisional hospital successfully built at IFEMA, the Madrid Trade Fair. The need for a permanent hospital specialized in pandemics was studied in April 2020. The detailed design and construction are organised in different batches of professionals and construction companies, and work begins in July 2020 and ends in November, with the first patient admitted on 11 December 2020.
The complex has 3 hospitalisation buildings, a logistics centre, a facilities centre and a multi-purpose building where the emergency centre is located. The Hospital has 1,008 hospitalisation beds organised in a modular way around Nursing controls and 48 beds for ICUs, of which 16 are for intensive care and 32 for intermediate care. That is, a total of 1,056 beds.
